WHEREAS: On September 18, 2020, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away at the age of 87; and WHEREAS: In her legal career and her tenure on the Supreme Court, Justice Ginsberg was a champion for women in the workplace, in health care, and as equal partners in our country’s future; and WHEREAS: On April 14, 1980, she was nominated to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia; and WHEREAS: On August 10, 1993, she was sworn in as Supreme Court justice where she served for 27 years as the second woman, and first Jewish woman, to serve on the Supreme Court; and WHEREAS: Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazer, mentor, and leader of courage and integrity; and WHEREAS: Justice Ginsburg envisioned and implemented a humane and progressive interpretation of the law; and WHEREAS: Justice Ginsburg faithfully served the United States of America, and the people of Minnesota have benefited from her vision, leadership, and willingness to stand up for what is right; and WHEREAS: It is ordered that all United States flags and Minnesota flags at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff to honor the life and legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM WALZ, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby order all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, immediately tonight on Friday, September 18 until sunset on the day of the interment of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
