The City has failed them. Instead of passing sensible short-term rental regulations that provide clear rules of the road and an appropriate mechanism for enforcement on bad actors, the City has failed to advance meaningful legislation. “Let’s be clear: the City Council could pass short-term rental regulations today. However, there are those like my opponent who would rather do nothing on this issue so it can remain a talking point on the campaign trail -- even if that comes at the expense of neighborhoods. That’s not leadership. “Councilmember Campbell should be commended for her current efforts to get regulations on the books. However, should the current Mayor and Council not enact a short-term vacation rental ordinance by the time I am elected Mayor, I will take this issue up within my first 100 days in office. We will work with communities to craft an ordinance that respects private property rights and ensures there is meaningful and funded enforcement for bad actors.” Gloria’s statement also comes ahead of a Planning Commission hearing on October 8 where Councilmember Campbell’s proposed short-term vacation rental ordinance is expected to be considered. Todd Gloria, the son of a maid and a gardener, is a former San Diego City Councilmember, City Council President, and Interim Mayor. He serves as the California State Assemblymember for the 78th District and is the Majority Whip of the State Assembly. If elected San Diego’s Mayor, Todd will be the first person-of-color and the first LGBT person elected Mayor in city history. ### Ad paid for by Todd Gloria for Mayor 2020
