On 2/18/2020 at approximately 1525 hours, I responded to an agency assist at 16.5w 35th St. EMSA requested assistance with a possible suicidal man, and the call was received from the Veterans Affairs Hospital. When I arrived, I made contact with the consumer, identified as PM. .was on the phone with a VA call taker, and she requested to speak to me. She said needed to be seen at the VA, and he needed to be transported by EMSA due to his health problems. I told her I would take care of it and ensure he was transported to the VA. I got off the phone and asked?what was going on today. said he lost his wife about two years ago. He said he has several health problems such as diabetes, Bipolar Disorder, and he suffers from back pain. He said he is 80 years old, and he is ready to die'said he has good days, but he doesn't want to live anymore. Iaskednf he had a plan. He said he did not, and he would never take his own life or force someone such as an officer to do it-said he wishes he could just lay down and die. He said he stopped taking his medications a couple weeks ago. I continued to speak with,., and .said he lived a very successful life. However, he said he has been taken advantage of in his old age and he's tired of it. seemed to be very intelligent and aware of his mental health issues but hopeless and tired of his health problems. He said he called the VA because he knew he shouldn't be feeling this way. EMSA arrived on scene and transported.to the VA while I followed. I prepared a Peace Officer's Affidavit for protective custody and gave it the medical staff when we arrived. The staff said i was no longer needed, and I left the hospital. Nothing further. T.
