EXTERNAL EXAMINATION: Well developed, fairly nourished, adult Negro female, meaSured height of 4 feet, 10 inches, approximate weight of 90-95 pounds. The hair is black, curly, and full. The irides are brown, pupils round, equal and normal in size, sclerae and conjunctivae are pale and minimally icteric. The nose and mouth are dry. The teeth are in good condition. No exudates of the ears. The neck is supple. Rigor mortis is diminishing in both the elbows and the knees. The breasts are small. The nipples are dark, no masses or colostrum. The chest cage is intact. An old, 1/4 inch scar is present over the anterior left shoulder. The abdomen is soft 346 doughy. There is a midline, suprapubic scar of 3 inches. A snail, drainage wound scar lies 1 inch above and to the right of the umbilicus. Striae gravidarum are present on the lower abdomen. The abdomen is not tense or distended. Yellow-tan-white material is present over the medial thighs and labia majora and minora. The usual pubic hair configuration is noted. There is a recent ab? rasion over the right knee. No arthritis or edema noted of ankles or feet. No scars or needle marks of arms, wrists or hands. Fingernails are short. The hands are somewhat roughened. The back shows dark purple dependent lividity which is fixed. The spine is palpably intact. The anus is clean. The posterior legs are normal. There are no posterior head and neck injuries. There are no gross signs of external trauma, other than those described above. There are no obvious tattoos or other marks of identification. INTERNAL EXAMINATION: The body is opened in the usual Y-shaped incision. The panniculus is 1/4 of an inch is thickness. The abdominal musculature is adequately developed. Cystic change of both ovaries are noted. A resol- ving corpus luteum is identified. The liver is moderately to markedly enlarged and diffusely yellow in color. The diaphragmatic leaves are normally spaced. The chest cage is opened and the breast plate is removed. No fractures are present. The lungs completely fill the pleural cavity. Granulating material and fibrinous exudate are noted over the entire right lobe, especially in the upper portions. Approximately 100 cc. of cloudy fluid are present in the right chest space. No fluid is present in the left chest space. No ad- hesions are present. The pericardial sac is intact. The heart is small in size. About 10 cc. of clear, greenish-yellow serous fluid is present. No adhesions. The thymus is atrophied. The mediastinal structures are in the midline. No neck injuries are present. No spine, rib, clavicular or pelvic fractures are noted. The heart reveals a normal myocardium and minimal atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. No evidence of injury or disease is noted. Sectioning of the lungs reveals diffuse lobar pneumonia in the right upper lobe, extending to portions of the right middle lobe. The remaining lung is congested and edematous, especially in the right lower lobe. The liver is diffusely fatty and greasy in consistency. It is yellow-gold in color throughout. There is no grittiness or other evidence of fibrous tissue reaction 0n sectioning. There is no bile stasis or necrosis. No odor is detected., The gallbladder is intact and contains the usual amount of bile. The spleen is spongy and soft. No accessory spleens are present. The splenic vessels are normal. The pancreas shows some fatty infil? tration and a slight increase in grittiness on sectioning. There is no evidence of acute change present. The adrenal glands and kidneys are unremarkable on scc? tioning. The uterus shows no evidence of pregnancy. There are no polyps on sec- tigning, The myometrium is normal= The ovaries show water filled of small size and a resolving corpus luteum. The cervix is patent to 2 mm. The vagina is clean. The intestinal tract is normal. The stomach contains a minimum of grey- yellow fluid without odor. There is no evidence of gastritis present. No foreign material is present within the stomach. The neck organs are healthy. The thyroid gland is normal in size, shape and consistency. The central nervous system is free from injury. The brain fills the cranial vault. No evidence of pressure changes are noted. The arteries at the base of the brain are normal in caliber and distribution. Sectioning reveals intact structures of the corpus striatum, clear watery spinal fluid and normal size lateral ventricles. The pens, cerebellum and brain stem are normal. No neck injuries. The spinal cord is net performed. The middle ears and sinuses are not opened. Sections of the breast are unremarkable. Bone marrow and muscle are grossly normal. Marked fatty metamorphosis of the liver. 2. Lobar pneumonia, especially of right upper lobe. . f??f?hl??ffs 3. Right pleural effusion. 4. Minimal coronary arteriosclerosis. 5. Focal chronic pancreatitis. 6. Serous of both ovaries; no evidence of pregnancy. 7. Minimal liquid contents of stOmach; no distinctive odor or foreign material identified. CONCLUSION: It is our opinion that Rose Marie Morton died of lobar pneumonia. Fatty metamorphosis of the liver, which is frequently associated with acute and chronic alcoholism, con- tributed to the terminal state of the deceased. There is no significant other natural disease present. There are no signs of recent or old injuries noted. The manner of death is classified as natural causes.
