October 21, 2020 Dear Myhuya Johnson: As our school system continues to handle a variety of aspects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we are in regular contact with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health to obtain resources and guidance that will help us act in the best interests of our students and employees. While we cannot provide the identity of the person, this letter is to make you aware that one of our employees who has recently visited Annapolis Middle on October 21, 2020, has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The Department of Health will notify close contacts – defined as those being within 6 feet of the person who tested positive for 15 minutes or longer – individually and provide further information to those contacts. As someone who has potentially had exposure to this person, however, we – following the Department of Health’s recommendations – ask you to do the following: • Call the Anne Arundel County Department of Health COVID-19 Line at 410-222-7256 if you believe you have been exposed to a person at your work location. Department of Health staff members will provide further guidance. • Monitor yourself and your family members for potential symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.) More information on these symptoms can be found here. • If the Department of Health recommends that you self-quarantine – regardless of whether you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or not – contact the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Division of Human Resources immediately at 410-222-5090. Human Resources staff members will provide further guidance to you on employee-related matters. Additional employee leave information can be found here. • Should you develop symptoms (i.e., fever, cough, or shortness of breath), notify your supervisor immediately, and do not report to work. If your symptoms develop while you are at work, notify your supervisor and go home immediately. Those with symptoms should self-isolate/separate themselves from others by staying in a specific “sick” bedroom or space and using a different bathroom if possible. Once home, contact the Department of Health as described above for further guidance. Each one of us can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by following these recommendations: • Maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet when interacting with coworkers or the public • Wearing masks and gloves at all times at food distribution sites and at any time you are unable to maintain social distancing (at least 6 feet away from others). Change gloves as appropriate to prevent crosscontamination. • Not using others’ phones or other work tools and equipment if possible. • Routinely disinfecting all work surfaces or frequently touched surfaces. • Frequently and thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. • Practicing proper respiratory etiquette, including coughing and sneezing into the back of your elbow or into a tissue. Immediately throw away the tissue and wash your hands. The health, safety, and well-being of our employees is at the core of everything we do. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Human Resources. Sincerely, Jessica S. Cuches Executive Director Division of Human Resources JSC/bm
