MEMO: One Month Out, Georgia Democrats Well Positioned To Turn Out Voters, Win Georgia Runoffs TO: Interested Parties FROM: Jonae Wartel, Georgia Runoff Director DATE: December 8, 2020 MEMO: One Month Out, Georgia Democrats Well Positioned To Turn Out Voters, Win Georgia Runoffs In just 30 days, Georgia voters will return to the polls for highly competitive races to elect Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate, and flip the Senate blue. The Georgia Runoff Coordinated Campaign is already well underway, with Democrats positioned to turn out voters across the state through a first-of-its-kind, multi-million dollar coordinated effort, which will organize voters across the state, build a strong diverse coalition, and protect every vote. Contacting Every Voter In the short time period since the runoff began, the coordinated campaign has hit the ground running, and has hired the largest organizing staff in Georgia Democrats’ history to turn out a broad coalition of voters and ensure that their votes are counted. The campaign is meeting voters where they are through in-person door-to-door canvassing that observes all public health and safety precautions, targeted phone banking, and a strong digital organizing program that helps voters understand how to make their voices heard, and organize their own communities. With four weeks before Election Day, this effort is already paying off. Over 1 million Georgians have already requested their absentee ballots, and the campaign is already seeing high levels of engagement from voters and volunteers. This weekend alone, the campaign’s virtual rally with President Obama reached over half a million people and recruited a record number of volunteers in a single event — all of whom we will continue to engage and mobilize across the state and online for the next four weeks. Building A Strong Coalition Democrats turned Georgia blue in November by engaging a diverse coalition of voters to make their voices heard — the same voters that will send Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock to the Senate on January 5th. Georgia saw record turnout among Latino, AAPI, and Black voters on November 3rd, and the Runoff Coordinated Campaign is following the same playbook to engage those voters and make sure their voices are heard to flip the Senate. The coordinated campaign has quickly developed a robust coalitions program aimed at engaging voters and community leaders across the state, including the Latino, AAPI, and African American communities; faith leaders, veterans and military families, and labor leaders; as well as youth, LGBTQ, woman, progressive, and Jewish groups in Georgians. The campaign is working hand in hand with coalitions leaders to help reach voters and new and creative ways, and working with community leaders to target programming and messaging to persuade more voters to turn out and vote early in this election. Protecting Every Vote Georgia Democrats have one of the strongest voter protection programs in the country — and their work hasn’t stopped since November 3rd. The campaign has built strong voter education and engagement programs to ensure that every Georgia voter has what they need to vote, from checking their registration to showing up at the ballot box. As our organizing team and volunteers are prioritizing voter education at the doors to help voters understand their options, our voter protection team is hosting community phone banks in multiple languages to connect with voters, help cure ballots, and answer voter questions. We also continue our work with counties and election officials, advocating for expanded early vote hours and locations, as well as additional support for mail-in ballots, to help voters exercise their rights safely while the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Path To Victory With a narrow window of time in one of the busiest months of the year, the Runoff Coordinated Campaign has one goal: turning out as many voters as we can to vote early, whether early inperson or with mail-in ballots. Every element of our program, from coalition programming to our conversations with voters to our social media pages, is built around this purpose. We are mobilizing voters every single day, and we will win by pushing new voters to turn out, helping voters navigate voting during this runoff, and making sure that every vote is counted. The stakes of this election are high, and this election will be close — but Georgians know their voices matter, and when every voter is heard, Georgians will elect Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock to flip the Senate blue.
