N15 Epidemiology. P2 Sumac: Vinyl Chloride Study Dear Susan and Nancy: Among these 73 employees are many who will show up as unexposed to vinyl_ chloride, yet they are in the cohort. This is due to the fact that they are coded on UC-2 as laborers (code 220) in the maintenance department (code AN or 691 or 327--) which is not a department which we include as exposed to VC. Their more detailed job breakdown was "autoclave cleaners" who were highly exposed to V0. The only way they could ultimately show up as exposedvis if they transferred to or from a VG department. axpmusfit I recommend counting these persons as exposed as long as they have a I job code of 220 and a department code of AN. 591. or 327--. Since not all laborers are autoclave cleaners, a list of other employees who have job 220 and department AN, 691, or 327-- after 1974 (the previous date of last follow- up) should be prepared and sent to the plant to determine whether they shou be counted as exposed to VC. we fwu-nu We; Please let me know if you have any comments. DANBURY - Loc 500 Subject: Departmental Codes nu - Attached is the letter to Dr. Hibbard and the departmental code listing as changed January l, I954. As I told you on the phone the selection process began by reviewing shift schedules dating back to I947 of those operators who were scheduled to work in specific vinyl chloride buildings. There was a department code listing for each of the buildings; however, they were never utilized. Product handlers, lab and laborers were selected by supervision and management using I internal list kept in their respective departments and relying heavily on memory. On October l8, l982, listing by Susan Hart: Ethyleneamines and the Chemicals Laboratory should be deleted as their exposures to vinyl chloride were below the action level. David H.
