October 1, 2013 Bishop Corney 326 Oak St. Pottstown, PA 19464 Dr. Hartmann Pottstown High School 750 N. Washington St. Pottstown, PA 19464 Dear Dr. Hartmann I find that the less we say the more people truly listen to what we have to say. In a world with the hustle and bustle of everything that goes on words in a sense have lost some of their power, and some of their meaning. However for this position someone is needed that can be a voice that pierces through all the noise of every day life. I find this more and more true each day with young people, such as students. Between all the executive decisions and the governmental policies the people of this next generation seem to be completely lost amongst all the statistics. If like minded people always say this next generation is our future, should we not empower them to make their own world better; should we not let them have their own voice? Well I will be that voice, and am willing to represent the student body if permitted. Through my life I have had a great deal of experiences as all different positions, Anywhere from being a busboy at a catering company, to the vice president or historian of a club. Through all of that I have learned that every voice matters, and all must be considered to benefit everyone one involved. Thus my plan is to hear the cries of anyone who is willing to rise up their voice wishing to improve this school and everyone in the building from the teachers down to the students. In a way the school in a sense is like a body the teachers making up the backbone, the students the life blood, the counselor making you the heart, and the principal being the head of the school, and not unlike a body everything must be in order and working properly for the whole to function. Thus if all different positions are important it seems only logical that the students have someone who has been around long enough to understand how the system works to represent them. Someone who knows most of the different areas of the school like The alternate education program, the business programs, telecom, the majors like literature and science, and the votech. All of them make this school better and should be properly represented by someone who knows and understands them. That person should be dedicated to doing everything in their power to help make their dreams of a better tomorrow a reality. My only hope now is that I will be given this great privilege, nigh this great honor of representing my fellow students before the school board, and raising their issues before everyone there. If I am not fit for the job however then I wish whoever is best suited for this position to be chosen. Because in the end who is actually chosen I irrelevant, so long as the students may finally get a voice to try and change their lives for the better. Then continue on with the knowledge that despite how little it seems that words mean these days they can have great power if your willing to stand up and speak out. Sincerely, Bishop Corney September 30, 2013 To Whom It May Concem: I am recommending Bishop Comey as a student representative for the Pottstown School Board. I have had the pleasure of having Bishop in my Telecommunications classes for the past two years. He is also involved in the Interact Club, Anime Club and the Tech Bridge program. He has volunteered with the New Life Thrift store here in town and he currently works at The Milk Man Lunch Co. During his time here at PHS, Bishop has completed many video projects and run live shows on our school television station. He has also worked for PCTV, the local cable network in Pottstown, where he has helped produce and record different live events. Bishop also had the opportunity to work on a student run radio show that was broadcasted every week on the local AM station, WBZH, in Pottstown. Bishop is a very personable and mature young man that takes his school work very seriously. He is always prepared, on time, and ready to take on any task. As ajunior Bishop helped to fihn, produce, and edit the Pottstown High School Video Yearbook. The Video Yearbook is a huge undertaking for our students. It is a video that encapsulates all of the happenings of the entire school year and it is shown to the entire school every year in May. This event is something the students and staff here at PHS look forward to every single year, so the students that make the video realize how important it is. The video is usually about 30 minutes in length with another 30 to 45 minutes of extras that students can see if they buy the DVD. The amount of time that Bishop has spent working on this project alone for the past two years is amazing. Bishop has become a huge part of our program here, not only due to his hard work, but also due to his leadership abilities. As a junior, Bishop showed his willingness to lead by helping younger students in the program learn how to use the production equipment in our class. He has also taught many of the other students how much planning and writing goes into every production that we create. Bishop is very patient and willing to work with students that ask for his help. Bishop is a very hard worker and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. I have no doubt in my mind that he would be a terrific candidate for this position due to his effort to achieve the goals he sets his mind to. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. If you have any questions or need any other information from me, please contact me at any time. Washington street-Poustown PA TO: Pottstown School District Board of Education DATE: 1 October 2013 CONCERNING: Bishop Corney To Whom It May Concern: It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Bishop Corney whom I have known for two years in my capacity as an English teacher at Pottstown High School. Bishop was a student in my Honors American Literature and Composition class last year. I will be honest with you - while not the best student of English in his class, Bishop still stands out of the crowd for a number of reasons. Life has not been easy for him, but Bishop has shown a lot of determination to do his best in his academics, and to be a successful citizen by participating actively in the student life opportunities at Pottstown High School. He can be seen and heard regularly on the morning announcements and in public service spots shown on PHS TV. He "throws" himself into projects and activities with an enthusiasm a bit unusual at the high school level. His sense of humor and, what can only be described as quirkiness, are a breath of fresh air. His ability to think outside the box is one of Bishop's most endearing qualities. Bishop grasps new concepts quickly, and graciously and eagerly accepts constructive criticism and instruction. In class, he was always punctual, cheerful, and willing to go the extra step. When I was short students to help finish the yearbook last year, it was Bishop who stepped into the gap and did what he could to help out. Bishop also possesses an innate consideration for others that set him apart from his classmates. Despite what I perceive to be a somewhat difficult home life, Bishop seems to think of his difficulties as an opportunity to test his strength, rather than becoming bitter or angry. He does not see his situation as an obstacle to his success in the future. it is a pleasure to recommend Bishop to you and I am proud of him for taking an interest in being the senior representative to the Board of Education. I believe that this may well be a turning point for him for that future. Sincerely, Leslye C. Blackwell, Pottstown High School English Department
